CEO and Founder, Mr. Richard J. Smith better known as Jamal Rich... started Fi Mi Kitchen back in 2008 when he was a student at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. The concept of Fi Mi Kitchen came to fruition when Mr. Smith was unable to return home for his birthday. He was very adamant about having his mother’s home cooked meals for dinner. He then cooked a simple but very authentic meal for himself and his friends, that night. He quickly became the cook on campus. Mr. Smith would cook and sell dinner to his peers once a month. There would be lines down the halls that wrapped around the corner. Everyone knew the Jamaican was cooking and if you’re at the back of the line, the only thing left would be rice and gravy.
Fi Mi Kitchen became the staple for the delicious cuisine Mr. Smith would create in his kitchen. “Fi Mi” in the Jamaican language of Potwa translates to “My”. So, when translated, “Fi Mi Kitchen” is “My Kitchen”. Often times when asked who cooked this, Mr, Smith would respond, “Ah Fi Mi”. And the rest is history. Mr. Smith prides himself and “Fi Mi Kitchen” on the freshness of the ingredients used in every meal and dish created and the authenticity behind the preparation of his food. Growing up in a single parent household, Mr. Smith gives credit to his mother and grandmother who always provided daily meals. They would take the time to teach him how to prepare and cook meals, even in their absence.
Everyone has a right to their own Kitchen, but this Kitchen that is shared with you is “Fi Mi Kitchen”. -Richard Jamal Smith

Richard Jamal Smith, Owner, Founder and CEO of Fi Mi Kitchen has over 20 years’ of culinary experience. From learning the fundamentals of cooking authentic Jamaican cuisine and having to cook the basics of a tradition l American meal. Mr. Smith has given a new taste to the world of cooking by reminding us that patience, love and authenticity are essential in his kitchen.

We believe that in order to progress there must be a Continuation of education, learning never stops.
